Let’s Get Blitzen: Cocktail Advent Calendar – Day 2 – Domino Effect Negroni.
You know when you say you’re “just going to have a quiet night,” and then suddenly you’re standing in your kitchen at 11:47 p.m. eating cheese and sharing your theory that Terminator was a prophecy that will finally come to pass in 2026 as we outsource all cognitive function to ChatGPT and invite knitwear-clad robots into our homes? This drink is for that energy. Moody, smoky, and extremely ready to make a night feel like a Night.
Domino Effect Negroni is the broody holiday cousin of a classic Negroni — same equal-parts backbone, but with mezcal as the base and Amaro Nonino stepping in to soften the edges. It’s basically a Negroni that spent a week in the mountains and came back with a cashmere turtleneck and new emotional boundaries.

Del Maguey Vida Mezcal brings a gorgeous campfire edge against Campari’s bracing bitterness. Sweet vermouth lays down spice and velvety depth, and Nonino tucks in a gentle orange-herb sweetness that makes the whole thing feel more seasonal than stern. It’s smoky, bittersweet, and so balanced that you’ll blink and realize your glass is empty and you’re deeply considering a second.
This is a very adult cocktail, best enjoyed by self-proclaimed professional drinkers and Negroni lovers alike.

If you haven’t picked up on the not-so-subtle clues, the theme for this year’s cocktail advent calendar is fun and games. I wanted to create strong visuals that fostered connection and nostalgia – what better way to do that than with classic games? As it turns out, there are a number of games that I have no idea how to play – dominoes? I’m lost. Backgammon? Send help.
It may not be as obvious in these images as it is in the short films I’m sharing daily on Instagram Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. I ask that you not point out my shortcomings in game play during this difficult time. Thank you for your understanding.

Tune into my Instagram Stories at 5 p.m. Eastern for a step-by-step tutorial — I’ll show you how to nail the balance and not accidentally pour yourself a drink that could strip paint. (We’re aiming cozy-bitter, not “oops, I’m serving up a glass of regret.”)
Cheers, friends!
