I’m often asked how I developed my love of creating craft cocktails. The answer is simple: the LCBO Food & Drink magazine. If you haven’t had the good fortune of laying eyes on this particular publication, I highly recommend you browse though their online catalogue of recipes.
In the years since I first discovered the Food & Drink magazine, available for free at LCBO locations across Ontario, I have made hundreds of different recipes from its pages. From elevated breakfast casseroles to bespoke cocktails, and everything in between, you name it, I’ve made it.
The food styling and photography throughout is consistently drool-worthy. The creativity inspires me to push my photography and styling to new heights. These are just a few reasons why I’m so excited to be partnering with the LCBO to share one of the Spring Trends they identified for the season: Sparkling Twists.
As one of the world’s largest buyers and retailers of beverage alcohol, the LCBO really is the expert on what’s new and trending in the space. This Cotton Candy Cocktail is a stunning example of a Sparkling Twist that features an innovative and easy-to-execute application of sparkling wine. For this recipe I’m using Sandbanks Sparking Rosé, a light and fruity rose perfect for spring celebrations and crafting on-trend bubbly cocktails.
I had the opportunity to prepare this cocktail and another inspired Sparkling Twist tipple well-suited to Mother’s Day sipping on CTV News Northern Ontario yesterday and you can watch the full segment embedded above!
This is an eye-catching sparkling twist on the classic Champagne Cocktail. A recipe for which appears as early as 1862 in “Professor” Jerry Thomas’s Bon Vivant’s Companion and is typically comprised of a sugar cube soaked in Angostura bitters and topped with sparkling wine. As the sparkling wine dissolves the sugar cube, it creates an effect of continuous effervescence – making your bubbly, extra bubbly.
To make the Cotton Candy Cocktail, simply add a couple of dashes of Angostura bitters to a coupe or champagne flute. Skewer a large piece of pink cotton candy on a cocktail pick, alongside a lemon twist, and rest over the glass. Pour the bubbly over the cotton and watch it dissolve before your eyes. Give it a little stir and enjoy responsibly!
This is a perfect cocktail for Mother’s Day which is coming up on May 8th!
Visit your nearest LCBO retail location or LCBO.com for spring trends and recipes. Remember to enjoy responsibly.
This is an exciting Sparkling Twist on the classic Champagne Cocktail that uses a cloud of pink cotton candy as the sweetener. A great cocktail recipe from the LCBO Spring Trends and perfect for Mother's Day.
Serve by pouring in bubbly. Note: Cotton candy will dissolve as soon as the bubbly touches it.
