Most of you are likely familiar with Dry January but other months of the year are making a strong case for placebo cocktails like Dry July and Sober October. While I’m not fully committing to the teetotaler lifestyle this month, I am making a concerted effort to reduce my alcohol consumption. With the return to restaurants, be it on a patio or indoors, I’ve found myself dining out and catching up with friends, clients, and colleagues over a drink more often than I’d care to admit.
Knowing full-well that my Let’s Get Blitzen: Cocktail Advent Calendar is fast approaching and holiday parties along with it, I want to be more mindful about my consumption throughout the remainder of the fall. We’re fortunate to have more locally produced non-alcoholic spirits coming to the Canadian market to ensure we can enjoy well-crafted cocktails, without the hangover.
I’ve already introduced you to Søbrii 0-Gin in my First Blush: Grapefruit Mocktail and Black(berry) Christmas and now the distilled non-alcoholic spirit brand hailing from Stratford, Ontario has introduced Søbrii 0-Tequila.
This post is sponsored by Søbrii 0-Tequila.
Søbrii 0-Tequila was inspired by artisanal tequila and mezcal distilleries in Mexico. Familiar tequila taste and heat are achieved by infusing agave (a traditional tequila ingredient) with spicy jalapeño, hot black pepper, savoury coriander and Canadian ginseng. The agave lends a grassy canvas for a splash of heat from jalapeño, a kick of black pepper, and a lasting finish of subtle citrus and punchy ginger.
In cocktails, it replicates the taste of alcoholic versions and can replace the hard stuff in most tequila cocktail recipes. It works beautifully in a non-alcoholic Paloma when paired with Fever-Tree Sparkling Pink Grapefruit and a salty rim. I wanted to put Søbrii 0-Tequila to work in a more autumnal tipple by making a Chai Hot Noddy – a Hot Toddy at 0 ABV. Much like the 0-Gin, the 0-Tequila contains zero calories and zero sugars.
I used Cinnamon Rooibos Chai from David’s Tea for a flavourful foundation, highlighted the citrus notes of the Søbrii 0-Tequila with some freshly squeezed orange juice, and finished with a squeeze of honey for subtle sweetness. This is the perfect concoction to keep you warm throughout Sober October and is a great option for a non-alcoholic Thanksgiving drink.
Søbrii is offering a 10% discount with code “SobriiOctober10%” on their website for Sober October and free shipping on orders over $55 – so now is a great time to place an order to stock up on Søbrii 0-Gin and discover Søbrii 0-Tequila.
I’ll be stirring up this mocktail on Virtual Happy Hour in my Instagram Stories tonight at 5 pm ET and hope you’ll join me there for a step-by-step walk-through on how to make this delicious drink.
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend and enjoy responsibly – maybe with a little help from Søbrii!
A zero-proof take on a Hot Toddy – this warming cocktail is made with Søbrii 0-Tequila, chai tea, freshly squeezed orange juice and a drizzle of honey. Perfect for chilly fall and winter evenings!
I used Cinnamon Rooibos Chai tea from David’s Tea.
