Let’s Get Blitzen: Cocktail Advent Calendar – Day 2 – Blood Orange Tea. This seasonal concoction is a play on the classic Blueberry Tea Cocktail that is made with Grand Marnier, Amaretto, and black tea, usually orange pekoe.
If you’ve been reading the blog for some time, you’ll know I love blood oranges. I simply can’t resist their beautiful garnet flesh, whether it’s in a cocktail, cupcake, or fancy dessert, I’ll never miss an opportunity to use blood oranges.
While the Blueberry Tea cocktail doesn’t actually contain any blueberries, earning it’s name from the fruity flavour some compare to blueberries, this Blood Orange Tea features both blood orange juice and zest.
I’ve used Organic Nepal Black Tea from David’s Tea which has a rich, sweet, honey-like flavour that plays nicely with the Grand Marnier (an orange liqueur with a brandy base) and amaretto (almond liqueur). The blood orange juice and zest adds a subtle citrus pop.
This is our first winter warmer of the series but fear not, we have many more in store, including a boozy hot chocolate, Nordic mulled wine, and more.
The Blood Orange Tea is the perfect way to warm your hands and your heart after a wintry walk or ski.
As this drink is made with two kinds of liqueur, it’s a relatively low ABV cocktail if you’re looking for a low-proof drink for afternoon sipping.
Don’t forget to join me on my Instagram story this evening to serve up this pretty little tipple together.
Yum Yum Yum!
