2022 Let’s Get Blitzen: Cocktail Advent Calendar – Day 10 – NeoCitron Vert. This hot toddy is made with a delectable lime and ginger gin from Quebec. The citrus notes are amplified with freshly squeezed lime, Cointreau, and mellowed with a splash of sage champagne syrup. The finished product reminds me of a tasty take on a certain off-the-shelf cold remedy.
Am I the only one who loves NeoCitran? I feel like I can’t be alone in this. Bright, citrus, and soothing, helps you sleep when you’re sick, what could be better?
As such, I’m quite pleased with how this little winter warmer turned out and I hope you’ll love it as much as I do. Another thing to feel good about is that by making this and using LOOP Lime & Ginger Gin – you’re helping reduce food waste.
Everybody loves a good potato chip, but making so many creates a lot of excess potato cuttings. LOOP partnered with a local chip factory in Quebec to distill these scrapped spuds into gin, adding cold-pressed juice from rescued lime and ginger along the way.
The subtle earthiness of the resulting potato alcohol and characteristic flavour of juniper are perfectly contrasted by the bite of fresh ginger root and tang of lime. This spirit has all that you expect from a classic dry gin, with a refreshing twist.
That’s right, this is more than just a crisp and glorious gin; it’s a solution to food waste.
Reducing food waste is something that I’m passionate about so I’m all about supporting companies that commit to doing the same and develop inventive approaches to distilling to achieve that end. Now, if only we could find a way to distill the bushel of cilantro in my crisper that inevitably turns to goo before I can come up with more savoury/cocktail applications for it.
Join me on Instagram Stories tonight at 5 p.m. as I stir up this tasty concoction!
