While I tend to prefer spirit-driven cocktails, I know not everyone wants the swift kick of alcohol to greet them at first sip. With that in mind, today I’m sharing a cocktail that is decidedly easy-drinking.
If you haven’t heard of it, Pisco is a South American liquor, produced in Chile and Argentina, made from fermenting grape juice into a high-proof spirit.
It’s most often found in the Pisco Sour – a tipple that combines the spirit with lime juice, simple syrup, egg white and bitters. What I bring you today is a riff on this popular Pisco drink. By adding in the flavours of blood orange and cinnamon, this variation is more sweet than sour.

I thought this would be a good time to share this recipe as Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day as I call it) is fast-approaching and you might be in search of more rose-coloured recipes to round out your menu.
I think throwing a party is probably one of the best ways to celebrate the 14th of February. My parents used to throw a Valentine’s party complete with raspberry martinis, walkways strewn with rose petals and a playlist with plenty of Al Green.
I feel like sharing the love with friends is a bit more fun than a prix fixe menu and the pressure of romantic pretence. Or maybe I’m just a pessimist.
Regardless of how you plan to celebrate this Hallmark holiday, do it in style and with a delicious drink in hand.

Tickled Pink Cocktail
Valentine's (or Galentine's) Day calls for a cocktail. Make yours a blush-coloured libation like this Tickled Pink cocktail that adds the flavour of blood orange to the traditional Pisco Sour.
- 1 oz pisco
- 1 oz blood orange juice, freshly squeezed
- ½ oz lime juice
- ½ oz blood orange syrup
- 1 egg white
- 2 dashes Mr. Bitters Fig & Cinnamon Bitters
- 1 candied blood orange, for garnish
- ½ cup blood orange juice
- ½ cup sugar

Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a slice of candied blood orange.

Combine blood orange juice and sugar in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir to dissolve sugar and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature before using.
