Let’s Get Blitzen: Cocktail Advent Calendar – Day 10 – Cosmo Sour. Despite my longstanding affection for Sex and the City, I can’t abide their cocktail choices. Consider this my effort to make their quintessential order, the Cosmo, more alluring.
The series was formative viewing for me. I got the DVD box set for Christmas one year and have rewatched the entire series more than once. It should come as no surprise that I identify as a Samantha – a total boss and unapologetic maneater, who would go to great lengths for a Birkin.
While Michael has successfully sated my hunger, my boss tendencies and lust for a Birkin remain unchecked.
I have to give it up to another boss lady who made this photo concept come to life – my mom. Trudy, or “The Trudster” as she’s affectionately known, posed in full Christmas tree cosplay to bring my creative vision to life.
If you haven’t had the pleasure, my mom stands at a towering 5’0 (she’ll claim to be 5’1 but has definitely shrunk) and weighs about 100 pounds. The tree she is supporting herein, while holding a cocktail, probably weighed nearly as much as her and towers at 7-feet or taller.
It was no easy feat but she came through and delivered. Michael assisted to make sure she didn’t get crushed by the tree and that the cocktail didn’t spill all over the ornaments.
This Cosmo Sour is a true example of a “sour” style cocktail which has a golden ratio of: 2 parts spirit, 1 part sour, 1 part sweet. It is the kind of cocktail that would be the most ordered on a bar menu. I know Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda, and Samantha wouldn’t be able to resist.
With a clean, smooth vodka as the base spirit, the subtle baking spice and citrus in the spiced cranberry syrup really shines through. This is the kind of drink that tastes like another, so, please enjoy responsibly!
Be sure to tune into my Instagram Stories tonight at 5 p.m. Eastern for a step-by-step cocktail tutorial on how to make this crowd-pleasing cocktail.
Cheers, friends!
